Pan Fried Tofu

Tofu has been a protein staple for over 2,000 years!  Often called the perfect food, if you haven’t tried it yet, here’s a simple way to prepare it. You can eat pan fried tofu with a dipping sauce, on a sandwich in place of your meat or vegi burger, you can also use it in any of your recipes instead of meat. Try it and let me know what you think!

16 oz semi firm or firm tofu, drain well

2-3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Optional: 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Salt and pepper, to taste

DRAIN all liquid from tofu. You can also gently pat dry with paper towel.

SLICE into 1/2″ slices or cut into bite sized cubes. If using cornstarch, toss cubes lightly, salt & pepper to taste.

HEAT oil in skillet, make sure bottom of skillet is coated with oil.  When oil is very hot, starting to pop, add tofu pieces.

DO NOT TURN, let tofu cook for 6-7 minutes, lightly wiggling the pan to avoid sticking.

Once the first side is browned, turn tofu pieces.

COOK the next side for about 4 minutes, or until golden brown.

Carefully remove tofu pieces from pan, let rest on paper towel  for a moment to remove any excess moisture.

ENJOY!  Pan fried tofu can be eaten plain, used with dipping sauce, on a sandwich or easily mixed into any of your main dishes. Tofu is an excellent substitute for meat and easily adapts to almost any sauce.
